LyondellBasell Industries (LYB, Financial) is set to lay off 345 employees at its recently closed Houston refinery, as per a document submitted to the Texas Workforce Commission. The refinery, which was capable of processing 263,776 barrels per day, employed around 400 people. Approximately 70% of these employees were hourly workers represented by the United Steelworkers union.
The layoffs come in the wake of the refinery’s closure, which was finalized earlier. LyondellBasell has not commented on the layoffs. The company’s decision to shut down the facility was part of a planned exit from the refining business, aimed at focusing more on its core petrochemical operations.
