Meta Platforms Shifts MR Headset Development to Focus on Software

The company plans to transfer some MR headset development and design responsibilities to its long-term partner, Goertek. This move allows Meta to concentrate on its more profitable software business.

Previously, Meta handled product design while Goertek managed manufacturing. By deepening this collaboration, Meta aims to reduce its hardware development burden and focus on building and optimizing its software ecosystem. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the increased collaboration with Goertek, emphasizing that Meta will continue to lead and participate in the headset design process to ensure high standards in user experience and technological innovation.
