Stock Market Pares Losses, but Dow, S&P 500 Fall Nearly 2%

Worries about spreading contagion from troubles in China’s property market smashed an extended streak of calm in the stock market and sent the S&P 500 toward its worst day since May. 

The S&P 500 tumbled 75.26 points, or 1.7%, to 4357.73. The technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index shed 330.06 points, or 2.2%, to 14713.90. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 614.41 points, or 1.8%, to 33970.47, dragged down by shares of Caterpillar and financial heavyweights like Goldman Sachs
