Product control/risk analyst at energy firm?

I'm interviewing for a risk position on the trading desk of a large energy producer in the U.S. It seems to be a mixture of 'product control' and 'risk', but I can't really tell what the difference is. Some of the core job requirements:

-Analyze & value complicated transactions, hedging strategies & positions of energy portfolio

-Develop & update PnL reports for trade desk

-Validate/mark forward curves

They've said I'll work closely with the traders and 'structuring' group, as well as have visibility to management. It seems to be somewhat quantitative, most people have a math/engineering/econ background.

Anyone familiar, what does this role entail? Is it a dead-end job?
