An Army of Utility Workers Heads to Louisiana to Restore Power After Ida

Thousands of utility workers are descending on Louisiana with everything from hip waders to drones as part of a massive effort to restore electricity after Hurricane Ida.

The powerful storm wreaked havoc on the high-voltage transmission lines that serve as the main arteries carrying electricity throughout the state, and damaged countless transformers and utility poles that distribute power through neighborhoods. Entergy Corp. , the state’s largest power provider, and other utilities face an enormous challenge in rebuilding the grid to turn the lights back on, and have sought aid from counterparts around the country.
