18 former NBA players, including ‘Big Baby’ Davis, charged in alleged $4 million health insurance fraud

Eighteen former NBA players, including former Celtics player Ronald Glen “Big Baby” Davis, have been arrested and charged with defrauding the NBA’s Health and Welfare Benefit Plan out of $4 million.

The players are accused in an indictment filed in federal court in the Southern District of New York for submitting false reimbursement claims from around 2017 to 2020 for medical and dental services that were not purchased.

The indictment said they received approximately $2.5 million in fraudulent proceeds.

In addition to Davis, Terrence Williams, Alan Anderson, Anthony Allen, Desiree Allen, Shannon Brown, William Bynum, Ronald Glen Davis and Christopher Douglas-Roberts were charged.

Others include Melvin Ely, Jamario Moon, Darius Miles, Milton Palacio, Ruben Patterson, Eddie Robinson, Gregory Smith, Sebastian Telfair, Charles Watson Jr., Antoine Wright and Anthony Wroten.

The NBA did not immediately respond for comment. A spokesperson for the Southern District of New York did not immediately respond for comment.
